Cut Canvas Work

What's going on? Well I am working on a handful of new cut canvas works and am enjoying it! Different colours are starting to enter my palette for a change and I am pushing my ideas forward in this area.

Oh, and here is part of another type of painting I did a few weeks ago on black paper.

VALERIE LOCKETT
Taking part in a group event, most of Valerie Lockett’s work is done on canvas or paper with many sculptures in wood. The process of the cut canvas double sided works can take a long time to produce as each stage needs to be carefully planned.
Experimenting with lighting in the room where the work is to be displayed can achieve different effects, drama, shadow and 3d elements come into play. With a background in music, sculpture and time-based media, Valerie Lockett’s work has largely been influenced by the elements of nature, Op Art, Kinetics, the abstract, mathematical drawing, Far/Middle Eastern philosophies and cultures. The artist considers rhythm as a key subject in her work, with the layering of topological maps and aerial views of land and water surfaces having played an important role.
Her rhythmic ‘landscapes’ conjure up a myriad of semiotic associations, oscillating their intentions with a gentle energy and expression of spirit.
